Back to Services for Mature Adults
Often
low-income older adults can’t afford to buy their needed prescriptions.
The Senior Prescription Assistance Program helps them apply for
free or low cost medications through the Indigent Drug Programs
of various pharmaceutical manufactures. Participants in the program
receive assistance in applying to up to three different manufactures.
This program is a part of the Elder Support
Program.
Who
is eligible
Participants must be:
- Dallas County or Collin County residents
- Adults 55+
- Not covered under
any public or private prescription coverage
- Considered low-income

How
does it work?
The entire process takes
about 5-7 weeks. Once we receive an application and other required
material (see How To Apply ), the program
coordinator will:
- Research the list
of medications to see which ones have an assistance program available
- Complete the application(s)
with the appropriate pharmaceutical company
- Forward the forms
to the applicant to verify, sign and send back to the program
coordinator
- Forward the forms
to the applicant’s physician for signature and request written
prescriptions
- Send the application(s)
to the appropriate pharmaceutical company
- Notify the applicant
once the application(s) has been approved and the medication is
being processed
- Assist with the renewal
process
- Assist in appealing
denials of application(s) as needed
