Internship Opportunities
The Guardianship & Money Management
Program of The Senior Source provides volunteer guardians and
daily money managers for older adults in greater Dallas who have no
friends or family able or willing to provide these services. Volunteers
serve as legal guardians for incapacitated older adults, helping to
manage personal affairs. Money Manager volunteers assist older, low-income
adults pay their bills accurately and timely, providing peace of mind
and security from vulnerability to fraud. All of these internships
are unpaid opportunities, for college credit or work history on resumes.

Eldercare Specialists in the
Elder Support Program
of The Senior Source help older adults and
caregivers with all sorts of problems, from finding
ways to stay in their home to taking care of a
parent. Family members, neighbors, and people from other
organizations call us for solutions. We do most of
the work on the phone, though some clients come to the
office and others contact us by email. We also visit some
people in their homes. Interns will help Eldercare
Specialist in all aspects of this work. Internships
are unpaid opportunities, for college credit or work
history on resumes.
Elder Support Internship

Guardianship Internship (Guardian of the Person)
Our program serves as “Guardian of the Person” for
vulnerable seniors who have been adjudicated
incapacitated by the probate courts, substantially
unable to provide food,
clothing or shelter or care for their own physical
health.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:
- Work with
referrals from the probate courts and the Texas Department of
Disability and Aging Services (DADS)
- Dallas, Collin, Rockwall, Hunt and Kaufman counties
- Interface
with our volunteers, court investigators, DADS guardianship
workers and clients
- Learn about
the guardianship process through the court system in the five counties
- Client assessments,
client visits, monitoring volunteer activities
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Desire to work
with vulnerable seniors
- Working knowledge
of Office 2003 (Word, Excel and Access)
- Must have a
Texas Driver’s license - pass a criminal background check
- Car available - some travel required with mileage reimbursement
(37¢/mile)
- Attention to
detail and able to work with very sensitive, confidential information,
maintaining confidentiality.
Money Management Internship
Our program provides
assistance with budgeting and daily bill paying, helping low-income
seniors stay independent and in their homes longer.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:
- Work with referrals
from social service agencies, family and self-referrals
- Interface with
volunteers, referral agencies, financial institutions, creditors
- Recruit volunteers
and referrals
- Assess potential
clients
- Audit client
financial reports submitted by volunteers
- Work with clients,
helping them sort through their mail, budget and pay bills
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Analytical
thinker, attention to detail, good with numbers
- Desire to work
with vulnerable seniors
- Working knowledge
of Office 2003 (Word, Excel and Access)
- Must have a
