Spirit
of Generations Awards Luncheon
The Senior Source presents
The Spirit of Generations
Award annually to an individual
or group of
individuals who have contributed
significantly in
"thoughts, words and deeds" to all
generations
of the Dallas community–past,
present and future.
Our awardees are those individuals
who have helped
build the foundation that supports
our community and
the bridges that connect the ages.
They have a
universal appeal and ageless spirit
that transcend the generations.
The start of Spirit of Generations
In 1993, the
Board of Directors of The Senior Source, Senior Citizens of Greater
Dallas held a number of meetings to determine how best to honor
an outstanding member of the Greater Dallas community, increase
visibility of the agency's work and raise funds for its services.
An entertaining luncheon that kept to a strict timetable was hit
upon as the optimum way of attracting business people and others
to celebrate and recognize our honoree and numerous agency programs.
The week after Thanksgiving, when possible, was chosen as the best
time to hold the annual luncheon.

A twist on the usual luncheon entertainment
|
An emphasis on light-hearted
entertainment as a way of
recognizing our honorees has
always been a part of the
Spirit of Generations. For
example, in 1998 Alicia and
Tom Landry were feted
through a poem read by eight
former Dallas Cowboy
football players, and in
1995 John Stemmons received
a 'proclamation' from all
the former Mayors of Dallas.
This past year was no
different. In celebration of
the contributions of
brothers Robert and Howard
Hallam, a live skit modeled
after the classic television
show This is Your Life
featured friends, family and
fellow citizens, as well as
"Jake" the Clydesdale,
paying tribute to the
honorees. |
